การเดาความหมายคำศัพท์จากบริบทโดยการวิเคราะห์คำ
การเรียนศัพท์จากการวิเคราะห์คำ(word analysis)นั้นเป็นการเรียนศัพท์ที่ถูกต้องทั้งยังช่วยให้ผู้เรียนสามารถจำศัพท์ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ เข้าใจถึงความหมายที่ซ่อนอยู่ในคำได้เป็นอย่างดี นอกจากนี้ยังทำให้ผู้เรียนสามารถเข้าใจคำศัพท์ใหม่ได้ไม่ยากนัก เพราะผู้เรียนเข้าใจถึง รากคำ (root)อุปสรรค(prefixes) และปัจจัย(suffixes) ต่าง ๆ ที่มีอยู่ในภาษาอังกฤษแล้ว เมื่อเจอศัพท์ใหม่ที่ไม่เคยพบมาก่อนก็จะสามารถเข้าถึงความหมายของศัพท์นั้นได้ขอแนะนำการเรียนศัพท์ที่ถูกต้องโดยใช้หลักการวิเคราะห์คำ ก่อนอื่นมารู้จักคำว่าหน่วยคำกันเสียก่อน
หน่วยคำ (Word Parts)
คือคำหรือส่วนของคำที่เล็กที่สุดแต่มีความหมาย ในคำ ๆ หนึ่งอาจมีได้มากกว่าหนึ่งหน่วยคำ หน่วยคำมี 3 ประเภทใหญ่ดังนี้ Prefixes (อุปสรรค)คือ ส่วนของคำที่อยู่หน้าคำบ่งบอกความหมายของคำ
Suffixes (ปัจจัย) คือ ส่วนของคำที่อยู่ท้ายคำบ่งบอกความหมายและหน้าที่ของคำ
Root (รากคำ) คือ ส่วนที่เป็นความหมายหลักของคำ อาจอยู่ที่ตำแหน่งใดของคำก็ได้

Prefix
Prefix แปลว่า “อุปสรรค”หมายถึงคำที่ใช้เติมเข้าข้างหน้าคำอื่นแล้วทำให้คำคำนั้นมีความหมายผิดไปจากเดิมเราเรียนคำเช่นนี้ว่า “Prefix” = อุปสรรค
Suffix
Suffix เป็นส่วนของคำที่เติม เพื่อให้รากศัพท์มีความหมายชัดเจนขึ้น เช่น "ful" แปลว่า เต็มไปด้วย เพราะฉนั้น careful จึงแปลว่า เต็มไปด้วย เช่น careful beautiful useful meaningful ดังนั้นคำที่ลงท้ายด้วย "_ful" บอกเราว่าเต็มไปด้วยเช่น คำที่ mesningful คือ คำที่มากด้วยความหมายคำที่ลงท้ายด้วย suffix ส่วนใหญ่จะเปลี่ยนชนิดของตัว (part of speech) เช่น คำนาม , คำคุณศัพท์ , คำกริยา และคำกริยาวิเศษณ์ In every word above, the suffix "-ful" gives you the idea of "much of something."
